Smartballs and Pregnancy

BAABAA asked:

Hi could you tell me if smart balls, love balls, pelvic floor strengthener balls or whatever you like to call them are safe to use during pregnancy?

Advice Grrl answered:

Hi BAABAA,

Smartballs are recommended to be used any time from 6 weeks after giving birth and not during pregnancy. Whilst it is not actually unsafe to wear Smartballs during pregnancy there may potentially be a risk of introducing infection, which is why we give this recommendation.

In order for Smartballs to be effective they do need to be worn for a period of 6 – 8 hours a day.
In order for Smartballs to be effective they do need to be worn for a period of 6 – 8 hours a day for a period of a couple of months. How quickly they work will depend on how compromised your muscles are and how often you use the Smartballs. For most women after a concentrated period of toning you can then use Smartballs every fortnight for maintenance.

It is recommended that you do the pelvic floor exercises recommended by your midwife during pregnancy and then start your inner workout with Smartballs 6 weeks after giving birth. We recommend that you start of with the single ball Smartball Uno. Initially you may feel a slight bearing down sensation when wearing the Smartball Uno. If this happens you may need to reinsert (so the ball is sitting quite high vaginally), very quickly your muscles will start to strengthen and the bearing down sensation will pass. Wear the Smartball Uno around home initially until you feel confident to wear it out and about. For detailed information about wearing Smartballs check out the information in the Sex Info section.

Also do note that not all Smartballs are created equal. Smartballs are designed by a midwife, manufactured in Germany and made from 100% medical-grade materials. The are excellent quality and are safe to use for pelvic floor toning. Many women worldwide have found Smartballs extremely effective for regaining their pelvic floor tone and preventing bladder weakness.
