Keeping clean around anal play

dm asked:

I’m a woman. If I like anal sex, but am worried about the “poos” making a mess, what do I do? What do the men do?

Advice Grrl answered:

Hi dm,

Many people who enjoy anal stimulation are concerned that if they progress to penetration they will make a mess.  There are a few ways to minimise this concern – I hope that some of these will help you.

What goes in

It can help to be aware of what you eat. The anal channel is designed for elimination, so don’t tempt it by eating rough foods a few hours beforehand.  Avoiding particularly noxious items like onions and beans might also be a good idea. For some people, this may also include alcohol.  You are wanting to keep control of your bowel motions, so stay away from laxatives.

Minimise messes

Go to the bathroom before engaging in anal play. Even if you don’t feel like you need to move your bowels, try anyway just to make sure.

While you definitely do not need to use an enema or a douche, some people prefer to do so.  These help to gently wash out the bowel.

Keeping clean

Whether you’re planning to penetrate with fingers, buttplugs, or body parts, you can keep them extra-clean by covering them (don’t forget the lube, though!). You can use latex or nitrile gloves on your hands (but make sure nails are trimmed nice and short anyway), dental dams if you’re planning to rim, and condoms on your toys or penises.

While many toys (especially silicone and glass) are sterilisable, it’s much easier to throw away a covering if a mess is inadvertently made despite all precautions.

Putting a towel down beneath you is also a good idea – even if you don’t make one mess, you may well make another with the fun you’re having!

Relax

If you do make a mess, it’s not the end of the world. Yes, it’s poop. But it’s just another mess – and it can be cleaned up and, eventually, laughed about. The main thing is to have fun, enjoy yourself, and be safe!
